Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Texas
Everyone knows that Texas is far from being a “front-runner” in terms of progression, and because of that the policies against marijuana are heavily outdated and being that it’s one of the most conservative states in the country, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
What really shocked the world was the Texas Compassionate Use Act passed in 2015, allowing for physicians who
3 Different Dispensaries in Texas
Compassionate Cultivation was the first walk in Dispensary open for business in Texas. It is currently operational Monday through Friday, and I believe the hours are from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s located in Manchaca, TX just outside of the Austin area.
Their goal is to have products that naturally produce a 20:1 or better ratio of CBD to THC. Because currently the doctors and physicians still are required to give very low amounts of THC.
They’ve actually just launched a new product called “Lonestar Spray”. It’s supposed to have enhanced absorption and ease of delivery especially in patients who can’t hold the medication under their tongue or in the cheek pouch long enough to allow mucosal absorption. https://texasoriginalcc.com/
Cansortium Texas, or better known as “Knox Medical” is another dispensary that was licensed under the Texas Compassionate Use Act that allows for patients with epilepsy to use low THC and high CBD products for their conditions.
They don’t have a whole lot of dispensaries but they do have a few spread out through the states. Depending on where you are and the regulation laws, the amount of THC and CBD in the products will vary from dispensary to dispensary. Knox Medical currently is set up in Tallahassee, St. Petersburg, Gainsville, Orlando, Fort Walton Beach, Jacksonville, Lake Worth, Clearwater, Cassleberry, and North Miami Beach Florida, so as you can see there are a lot of storefronts down in Florida.
However there is one Hanover, Pennsylvania, there’s one in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and there’s one right here in Schulenburg Texas. Clearly, with the legalization process taking as slow as it is, it’ll be a while before we have as many dispensaries here as there are in Colorado or Florida, but I definitely see expansion in the near future. http://www.knoxmedical.com/
Surterra Wellness is originally a Florida based company. The company was founded in 2014, and they currently have over 23 dispensaries in Florida, but recently after the Texas Compassionate Act was passed of course in 2015, they decided to expand out to help patients here in Texas. We don’t have a dispensary yet but they will definitely have one soon as the company continues to expand.
Right now they are delivering to Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, but they have made the process very easy. You just go online and answer some questions to see if you qualify as a patient with intractable epilepsy. Next they will ask for your current location and they will begin to pair with you a physician to evaluate the best treatment for you. Just be sure to bring your ID and the last 12 months of your medical records.
As far as products, they offer both high CBD and low THC products but again the amount varies from state to state because not every state has such strict regulations.
Again, this is going to be a long, steady, and uphill battle for getting Texas to be anything similar to Colorado or California.
At this point, advocates have to be encouraged that we Texans are finally taking steps in the right direction!
