I know it might seem strange seeing “healthy” and “smoke” in the same sentence, but always remember that anyone who advocates for cannabis, is always comparing to much worse substances like alcohol and tobacco, so in this case, those 2 terms healthy and smoke actually fit in this scenario.
So what is the healthiest way to smoke weed? Most people who smoke do so by lighting up a blunt or a joint, but recent studies have shown that there are better and more health-conscious ways to smoke, or in this case “consume” the THC that makes us love cannabis in the first place.
First, let me say that no matter what you’re smoking, it’s probably better if you didn’t smoke at all. However, when you compare the negative effects of cigarette smoke to the negative effects of marijuana smoke, the difference is night and day.
With that being said there are still some negative effects with cannabis smoke, including harmful toxins from the smoke, not to mention the potential for inflammation and the building up of phlegm. But these effects can be minimized to a degree by using the following methods instead of smoking joints:
- Using a Vaporizer
- Smoking with a Bong
- Cooking or Baking Edibles
Using a Vaporizer
When you use a vaporizer, obviously you don’t use a lighter and because there’s no flame, you’re basically eliminating or reducing the risk of burning your throat whenever you take a hit. Also as far as being around other people whether you’re inside or outdoors, a vaporizer is much more tolerable than just smoking outright obviously due to the much lighter smell.
Another great benefit from vaping is that because the smoke isn’t as thick as smoke because it’s more of vapor than smoke, it’s considerably much less harsh on your lungs.
Smoking with a Bong
Smoking with a bong is always a great option for a couple of different reasons. For one, you’re inhaling a lot more smoke at once, so many people believe the effects are a little stronger than other methods. Also when you use a bong, the water filters the smoke clearing a lot of the harmful toxins from the smoke before you inhale it.
Another added benefit to this method is you save a lot more bud! Lol.
Many people are interested in cannabis but aren’t smokers. Well with edibles it allows you to experience the “high” feeling without having to ruin your perfect no smoking record.
Edibles are very different though and sometimes tricky because they can range from not being very potent to being extremely potent! So for example, I’ve taken some edibles before in the past, and at first, I thought “they’re okay but I’d rather smoke”. But now after the last edible I had (weed brownie), I realize that with a strong (potent) enough edible, the effects can be a lot stronger and last a lot longer.
I think if I had to rank them in order I would say using edibles is the healthiest method, then using a vaporizer, and then last but not least smoking a bong would be last.
Not to mention that again you’re more so consuming the THC rather than actually smoking it which health-wise is better.
So as you can see yes we all love the traditional ways of smoking, but for all you health-conscious smokers out there, there are other ways healthier ways to smoke cannabis. And I’m one of those health-conscious smokers too so don’t be ashamed!!
Also keep in mind that even though there are a few and very minor negative effects of marijuana smoke, in particular, some studies have shown that a non-smoker is NOT less likely to get lung cancer. So in other words, there isn’t really much risk in smoking weed specifically in regards to getting any type of lung cancer.
But obviously, I’m not a doctor or health proffessional, so do your own research. (:
