Best Dab Nails

Best Dab Nails

So for those of you who don’t know what a dab rig is, it’s a piece that is used primarily for concentrates(often referred to as “wax”, “shatter”, or “oil”). Now there are many different types of rigs out there, so getting a quality dab rig with the best dab nails on top of all the other accessories needed for a rig can get pretty expensive sometimes but, we all know quality sometimes comes at a price.

Dab rigs can range anywhere from $50 to $250 depending on the attachments, type of nail used, and the size. You should expect to pay more for your rig than you did for your bong. However unlike bongs, a rig uses a nail instead of a bowl, and they’re typically much smaller in size.

Top 3 Nail Types

Titanium – Titanium is the most commonly used nail when dealing with rigs. This is due to the fact that they’re pretty much unbreakable. Titanium is the most durable material you can have for a nail, and they hold heat very well and can stay heated for a really long time. In my opinion, this is the 2nd best type of nail because it gives you a great dabbing experience, which is why most dabbers prefer this type of nail. However, one downside to this nail is that sometimes it can overheat, causing the concentrate to burn instead of vaporizing.

Quartz- Personally, I think quartz is the best nail you can use for dabbing. It’s got the same nice clear look like glass would, but it’s much stronger than borosilicate glass. And when it comes to heat retention, you don’t have to worry about it overheating or breaking because it gets too hot, they can hold heat for a very long time. Of course, the thickness of the quartz you get can have an effect on heat retention but the thicker the better. I use my quartz banger all the time and there’s just nothing like it. If you want a good quality dabbing experience, go with the quartz! I clean it after each use with a q-tip and it stays very clean. Plus with a banger, you can just cap the nail and it’ll give you an outstanding experience.

Ceramic- Ceramic pipes are pretty cool considering all the different designs available, they’re quite durable as well but I’d recommend not heating these up in the same spot every time you dab because it could break due to the material wearing down as opposed to quartz. But if you spread the heat out evenly from time to time you should be fine.

Glass- Glass nails are ok because they are great for tasting the flavor, and they’re very easy to clean. However, glass nails don’t hold onto heat very well so you need to be time cautious when using your torch or you could crack the glass, which is why it’s not in my top 3. If your careful, it can end up lasting a very long time. But hat’s why I prefer quartz because even though they are a bit more expensive, it’s worth it in the long run.

  1. Hey Gabriel!

Bro, this site is sick! My friends and I have been talking about getting a dab rig so this post really came in handy.

I didn’t know you could burn the oil if you overheat your nail.

I think I would agree that the quartz is the best nail. Especially if my rig is clear too.

Thanks for sharing this! It was a great read.

  2. Thank you for the informative article. Dabs are definitely on the rise and having the right piece of equipment to maximize the benefits, if pretty important. I never realized how they differed from on another. Keep spreading the word, we are witness to history in the making.
    Take Care,

  3. HI Gabriel! I love this site! I use glass but I wasn’t as educated of the different options until I came here. I took a little peek around while I checked out this article. You are officially bookmarked my friend! Thank you for your honest opinion and in depth research.

  4. Cool Gabriel! Thanks for this informative post about dab rigs. My friend was actually talking to me about this recently, so now I can forward this onto him so he can look at all the variety of best options that you highlight here.

Personally I like the quartz alot, but which one would you say is the best if your on a tight budget? You clearly have an amazing knowledge of water pipes and dab rigs.

    Bookmarked for future reference!

    1. If you’re on a tight budget, I still think your better off going with the quartz because it might be a little more, but it’ll last you a lot longer, therefore, saving you money because you won’t have to go get a replacement.

  5. Lots of great information exposed to on your website/lots to learn
How is genius pipe? A friend of main was considering buying one . This pipe seems awesome concept big hit, sleek and portable. Any one with experience on this pipe. great website buddy-I would greatly recommend your site and worth visiting again

    1. Hey Joseph, yeah I mean they’re really portable and it gives you a really smooth hit. I personally prefer a vaporizer or a dab pen over a genius pipe though, I just think it’s a little safer when going out in public.

  6. Hey Gabriel, love the site. I am not as big into dabs as I used to be, as I just couldn’t trust where they were coming from. When I do take dabs, I have a glass dome nail (that needs replaced), which I personally prefer over titanium. I have heard that overtime the titanium nails flake off as they get reheated, do you know anything about that?

Since butane or CO2 extracted dabs would give me headaches, I looked into making my own, with no solvents. Only heat and pressure. Rosin dabs are made using parchment paper and a hair straightener, and I have found them to not only be much more flavorful, but also a very clean dab. Have you tried them? What state are you from if you are from the US?

I really appreciate your article, it is important that people know about their options, so they are not clueless when they walk into a head shop or order online.
    Have a great day man,

    1. Hey Chris glad you liked the article, I’m from Texas and yeah I know what you mean about not knowing where they come from because it seems like these days people are making it all kinds of ways and who knows what you’re really getting. But if you’re confident about where it’s coming from, you can’t go wrong. Now with the titanium nail flaking, yes I’ve heard of it but not until after much use, you just have to be sure not to burn the exact same spot each time to try and maximize use but you should be fine. I have tried rosin dabs but they aren’t my favorite because as you said they don’t have much flavor, and I didnt feel as stoned. Felt pure though lol.

  7. Thanx for the informative article. Dabs are getting more popular and having the one can really maximize the benefits. My friend John was actually talking to me about this recently.
Personally I like the quartz one, but which one would you say is the very best ? You really have an amazing knowledge of pipes and rigs. Excellent site-thanx again

  8. Yeah, I agree regarding the glass nails. I went through a fair few until my local shop started stocking titanium and sold me on the idea. Since I have switched, I’ve never looked back. Have never considered the possibility of a quartz one, but seeing as they hold the heat and are heat resistant, it definitely makes sense. Will definitely have to invest! Thanks for your post, keep up the great work!

  9. I have a serious dabber friend who uses quartz all the time and he’s just fine with it. He always advised quartz needles and now after reading your article I understood why.

Materials are actually really important, although they don’t look like they are. What is your favourite dab needle type and can you write down a specific link to buy your favourite one?? I trust your taste in dab needle preferences 🙂

  10. Gabriel,

PERFECT dab nail to go with the rig I will be getting as well. This was an awesome review and after reading I knew what the differences between each nail head and what the benefits and disadvantages were. How often do these nails need to be replaced? Do you think they last over a year?

    1. Hey Ryan!

I’m glad you found this post helpful, and in my experiences nails can last as long as you want them too. Some nails naturally start to wear off after a while but if you keep your nails clean as much as you can you can definitely make them last over a year. But a fresh piece here and there doesn’t hurt either!

  11. Thanks for sharing these. I was unfamiliar with the different options until I came across your site. I appreciate your honest opinion and reviews. The variety you give is so helpful. I may go with the quartz based on what you have said and because they seem to last longer. Very informative!

  12. After looking through many different assortments of dab nails your website was a great wrap up of every single nail one. I really do like the different types as it truly depends what you are looking for and personal preference. Thank you so much for making these posts Gabriel, keep up the good work

  13. I didn’t know that there were so many types of dab nails. I’ve experienced the glass one, and I’m not so serious about dabbing, but I’m so glad that I learned so much about them in this article.

I think quartz is my new favorite now!! It has all the reasons to be chosen!! Durable, transparent and pretty cool!!

  14. Great article and site! I’m glad I found this site I can’t wait to check out some of the selections you put on here.

I have been wondering what dab nail would be best, now I feel like I can make a better selection based on this info.
You mentioned the glass was good for the flavor; how do you think the Quartz compares for the flavor?

    1. Hey Franchesca!

I am glad that you found this site helpful to you and interesting. In my opinion, the flavor tastes really good whether you’re using a quartz banger or just glass. The big difference between them is thickness. The quartz banger is a lot thicker and can absorb more heat than a glass banger. I think you should put them together side by side and take one hit out of each to see which one you like better. Because again at the end of the day it’s all about preference, but you don’t know what you don’t like or which one is better until you try it.

      I hope this helps!!
